So when I received Mother Connie's current newsletter, I went through it looking for some great recipes and helpful hints in the kitchen. Offer alternatives to junk food and soda: of course you cannot expect your family just to "cold turkey" when you get rid of junk food you will need to replace those tasty snacks with other things. Fruits are a good alternative. Sugar free drinks can replace juices and sodas. Try to encourage your family to drink more water. Sugar free ice cream can be taken in moderation. You can make fun veggie snacks; there are many quick recipes for healthy snacks on the Internet. Make use of a cooking gammon in slow cooker to prepare a good meal for your family which will be ready when you come back from work. This will eliminate the fast food habit.


And it doesn't take super human gammon joint talent skill or effort to make a delicious meal in a crockpot in fact there are quite a few crockpot recipes that require or less ingredients! And crockpot cooking can be as simple as tossing a few ingredients into the pot before everyone leaves for the day. In the evening, the smell of slow cooked food fills the house and whets the appetite. There's no more last minute trip to the grocery store, or the endless 'what's for dinner' questions.


First of all, let's look at what a Slow Cooker is. You might know it under the name crock pot, or you may simply know it from your grand mother's kitchen.


It can be a challenge to find meals that not only satisfy the kids, but do not contain any meat. If you or your child has pickier tastes, simply substitute tofu for meat, veggie burgers for beef, or make a simple cheese pizza.
