Slow Carb Chili Recipe: One Way To Shed Off Extra Pounds

I hate dinner time meetings and try to avoid them. Tonight I'm going to a church meeting and it starts at 5:30 p.m. Unfortunately, I get so hungry my stomach starts to growl. If the meeting lasts longer than an hour, I'm leaving and heading home for dinner with my husband.

A well-equipped kitchen contains more than just the appropriate appliances. You will also need the proper utensils, including a set of sharp knives that will effectively cut and slice your vegetables, meats and other food items. And to keep your knives sharp, you should also invest in a knife sharpener. Your work in the kitchen will go more smoothly if your knives always have a sharp blade.



Honey Corn Bread: 1 cup yellow corn meal; 3/4 cup unbleached flour; 4 tsp. baking powder; 3/4 tsp. salt; 2 eggs, beaten; 3/4 cup milk; 1/4 cup honey; 2 Tbsp. oil. Preheat oven to 425 degrees; oil an 8 inch square baking dish. Mix ingredients in a bowl using an electric mixer on low speed. Bake 15 minutes.

I ordered the cheese enchilada dinner with chili gravy and rice and beans. I have never heard of chili gravy and just assumed it meant slower cooker chili. I was wrong. When they brought my food out I thought they mistakenly put queso on my enchiladas instead of chili so instead of returning the food I requested a bowl of chili. They brought out a bowl of the same looking cheese sauce. Not really sure what it was. Perhaps it was chili as in chili pepper? Overall, the enchiladas didn't taste that bad. The rice was very good, but the refried beans were oversalted. So much so that they were not edible.

As a working Mom sometimes I do not arrive home from work until 6:30. On those nights I will either throw a meal in the slow cooked chili before I leave for work or leave directions for the babysitter to put the casserole or meatloaf in the oven at 5:00. Then when my husband arrives home at 6:00, dinner is hot, ready and the house smells delicious.

This is one of the vegetarian slow cooker chili that blend the richness of tomato, sweet potato, red kidney beans, garlic, curry spice, and coconut milk to create a fabulous stew dish for supper.

Combine the brown sugar, bourbon, and chili sauce in a bowl and mix well. Stir in the sausages. Spoon the sausage mixture into a baking dish. Bake at 350 for 1 hr. or until the sausages are cooked through. Cut into bite sized pieces. Serves 40.

Reading the specials chili con carne gastromand on a recent weeknight frogleg cakes and scallops poblano it seems that the kitchen is capable of a broader reach. Hopefully they'll expand their offerings as they regain a following.
